Guestbook usage

Here you will find the answers to your questions about how to use your guestbook.

How many messages can my guestbook hold?

We do not hold a fixed ammount of messages as a maximum. We will look at the way you use your guestbook and for what purpose. You do however always have room for more than 2,500 messages.

Why do I have to copy this security code?

The security code makes sure that no automated scripts are able to post spam messages. If you are the owner of the guestbook and would like to turn off the security code (because you do not mind spam or never received any) go to the control panel of the guestbook and log in with the username and password of your guestbook. When logged in, click on the menu item Guestbook options. On the next page, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on No, do not place the security code image on my guestbook. Afterwards click on Save changes. The security code is now turned off.

Is it possible to review the messages before they are added to the guestbook?

Yes, to enable the review function, go to the control panel and log in using the username and password of your guestbook. After logging in, click on Message review settings in the left menu. On the next page, click on Yes,... and afterwards on Save changes. You have now enabled the review function. When a visitor now adds a message, it will not automatically be shown in your guestbook. You first have to approve the message by going to the control panel and clicking on Message control. On the next page, click on approve of the message you would like to be shown in the guestbook.

How do I add an image or photo to my message?

Click on the button at the top of the textfield where you write your message. A window will appear where you have to fill out the URL which leads to the image (e.g. http://www.example.com/image.jpg). When you cannot find the button, it means that the owner of the guestbook does not allow you to add images to your message. If you are the owner of the guestbook, you can turn on formatting (which includes adding images) in the control panel of your guestbook. Please note: When you'd like to use an image, make sure it's already placed somewhere on the internet. It will not work if the image resides on your harddrive. To place an image on the internet you could use your own webspace of one of many free image hosting services.

How do I add a smiley or multiple smileys (smilies) to my message?

To add smileys to a message, you can click on the button at the top of the textfield where you write the message. After clicking on the button, a window will appear which contains all the smilies you can choose from. Click on one of the smilies to add it to your text. When you cannot find the button, it means that the owner of the guestbook does not allow you to add smilies to your message. If you are the owner, you can turn on smilies in the control panel of your guestbook.

Is it possible to add different smilies to the guestbook?

It is not possible to add smileys to the standard smiley-set. However, you can use other smilies by using the button. You can find all sorts of smilies on websites like mysmilies.com.

Is it possible to add videos to a message in the guestbook?

Yes, it is possible to add one or more movies or videoclips to a message. To do this, click on the button above the textfield where you write the message. After clicking on the button, a window will appear where you have to choose on which website the video resides and what the URL is to the videoclip. After filling out the form, click on Add. This way you can turn your guestbook into a great video guestbook. We support videos from YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo! video and MySpace video.

Is it possible to add background music to the guestbook?

It is not possible to add background music to your guestbook, because most visitors do not like to visit a page on which music plays automatically. However, it is possible to add a music video to your guestbook, which will only play if the visitor clicks on it. To add a music video to your guestbook, click on the button above the textfield where you write the message. After clicking on the button, a window will appear where you have to choose on which website the video resides and what the URL is to the videoclip. After filling out the form, click on Add.

Am I allowed to add HTML to my message in the guestbook?

No, it is not possible to use HTML in your message, because of security reasons. You can, however, use the formatting buttons at the top of the textfield to make the message look the way you want to. When you click on the visual tab, you can use the WYSIWYG editor, which makes it even easier to format your message. If you do add HTML to your message, it will be shown as plain text (e.g. <B>)
